The Dongshih Forest Area is part of the Shuangsi River basin within the warm and humid north-eastern Taiwan climate zone. Average temperature throughout the year falls between 15 to 28℃ with abundant rainfall over 3,000mm per year. The water for the perennial river here comes mainly from rainfall in the nearby watershed. During the typhoon season, heavy rains often carry a great quantity of debris flows, causing damage to the dikes along the riverbank and create thick deposits on the riverbed.
