The Soil and Water Conservation Outdoor Classroom at Sifen, set up in 1989, was the first Classroom to comprise a tourist orchard on its grounds. To reach the classroom, visitors can take the 3rd Taiwan Provincial Road (137k) and follow the countryside path uphill..
Up on the gently sloped hills of the Classroom are a full range of soil and water conservation facilities including hillside ditches, L-shaped side ditches, gully step dams, a rainfall water erosion simulation area, and vegetation cover, all set up by the Soil and Water Conservation Bureau.
The observation area for soil and water conservation here has a model larger than most demonstration locations. It clearly shows how vegetation cover helps to protect soil from erosion. In addition to learning about various engineering techniques used in environmental conservation, the classroom also offers fresh fruit picking, making it an ideal destination for school outings.
