Fongshan Tropical Horticultural Experiment Branch, Agricultural Research Institute Fongshan City, Kaohsiung County
Chengcing Lake, formerly named Dabei Lake, is located in Niaosong Township in Kaohsiung County. Also known as the ‘Sihu Lake of Taiwan’, it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in southern Taiwan. Most of the local attractions are scattered along the lake road. The many scenic spots around the lake attract millions of visitors each year, who come here for the lake, the landscape, or to fish and hike in the surrounding area. It is also a major source of water supply for the nearby Kaohsiung region.
The Fongshan Tropical Horticultural Experiment Branch sits on the banks of the Chengcing Lake. The Branch is responsible for making agricultural weather forecasts and researches on pineapple farming. The agricultural weather observation station here is a level 1 computer-based automatic weather station providing detailed data and weather reports for the agricultural industry. On the grounds of the pineapple farm there is also an historical soil and water conservation experiment area, which has made great contributions to the development of Taiwan’s pineapple industry in the past.
