Luye Township lies between the Central Mountains and the Coast Mountains in Taiwan. The landscape around the Luye area is characterized by the rivers Jianadian, Luliao, and Luyue, all of which flows eastwards through the area into the Beinan River. Towards the east side is the forests and pastures on the slopes of the Coast Mountains. Towards the central north area is the fertile and agriculturally productive plains. The southwest section is characterized by hills, where lies the tea plantations of the Luye Plateau, one of the three major tea growing regions in eastern Taiwan.
The Luye Plateau is well known for its tea. Thanks to the unique geographical and climatic conditions, tea leaves can be picked up to six times a year, which ranks the top comparing to other regions in Taiwan. The tea production techniques applied here are also quite different. The former provincial governor Li Deng-huei named it Fulu( fame and wealth) Tea for its freshing sweet fragrance.
At the peak of tea plantations on the plateau lies a pavilion with breathtaking views over the Beinan River valley below. In the near distance are symmetrical rows of tea trees set against a backdrop of green mountains and valleys afar.
Paragliding enthusiasts from the Taitung Paragliding Society often take off from the pavilion to glide smoothly into the southerly wind. The bright colors of their wings shining against the deep blue sky creats a spectacular scenery.
