The Taimali region is a strip of land with high elevation, low average temperature, and high humidity, making a splendor geography phenomenon. The climatic conditions are favorable for growing the Jinjhen flower, or day lily (also known as ‘golden needles’ in Chinese), a type of edible lily whose tenderness and tastiness are suitable for cooking. The Jinjhen Mountain was once the main supplier of day lilies in Taiwan, hence the name Jinjhen Mountain. The production peak falls between August and October. During this time every farmhouse and every patch of leveled land on the slopes covered with yellow day lilies, becomes golden carpet-like fields.
In addition to day lilies, the Jinjhen area is also marked by flowers including wild lily, cherry blossom, Apricot blossom, and azalea. Native wild lilies grows among the day lily fields and bloom in April and May. The white petals of the lilies set against the green background of fields make Jinjhen Mountain an ideal day out in the spring season.
The local agricultural production and scenic landscape are Jinjhen Mountain’s assets for developing the tourism industry. In the recent years the area has undergone series of soil and water conservation projects to prevent landslides caused by overdevelopment. In addition to strolling through the lily fields and walking in the refreshing natural forest, visitors can also get some first-hand experience of the effects of soil and water conservation projects.
