Deployment and application of GIS
The SWCB has been promoting the deployment and application of the Geographic Information System (GIS) since 1993 and has completed databases such as slopeland soil maps, cadasters, drawings indicating the utilization status of slopelands, drawings indicating the scope of slopelands, satellite image database, hillslope area photomaps, topographic map showing economic development, distribution maps of collapsed sites, debris flow evacuation shelters and routes, potential debris flow torrents maps, location map of rainfall stations, distribution maps of structures used for disaster mitigation in mountainous areas, information of ecological engineering methods, debris flow source treatment, special soil and water conservation areas, and land use capability of slopelands and satellite image monitoring database in 2004.

A number of operating application systems such as the Debris Flow Disaster Prevention Operation System, Integrated Work Auditing System, Internet Slopeland Geographic Information System, Inquiry System for Disaster Mitigation in Mountainous Areas, Inquiry System for Disasters in Farm Roads, Office Automation Application System, and GIS Database Management System, has been completed.

A SWCB spatial database integration application system was completed to provide access to all business units via intranet and handle on-line inquiries as well as offering real-time information over the Internet.

Active efforts have been made to develop a monitoring and decision support system for debris flow disasters and a technical system for slopeland disaster prevention.

Electronic Services
The SWCB started to promote computerization of services from 1985 and has set up the Project Management and Inspection System, Salary Management System, Property Management System and Application Handling System, and the Integrated Soil and Water Conservation Work Auditing System. Among those, the latter won the of “Outstanding Information Uses and the Products Award” in 2004.

A local area network was deployed in 1998 when computers were first used for the preparation and exchange management system of official documents.

A T3 broadband network between the SWCB office and six GNS-VPN system were established, ensuring effective and save sharing of information.

An electronic mail server was set up to offer personal e-mail services to SWCB's employees.
