Crackdowns on illegal usage
  From July 1983 to December 2004, 26,874 cases of illegal usage, totaling an area of 21,020 hectares, were stopped, reported and cracked down, along with 19,139 cases where administrative fines totaling NT$1.04 Billion were imposed and 1,557 cases referred to judicial authorities for investigation and prosecution.


   In 2004, 1026 cases of illegal usage, totaling an area of 315 hectares, were stopped, reported and cracked down, along with 926 cases where administrative fines totaling NT$83.4 million were imposed and 65 cases referred to judicial authorities for investigation and prosecution.


Review and supervision of soil and water conservation programs
   From July 1998 to December 2004, 5,745 cases involving the agricultural usage of slopelands and a development area of 9,801 hectares were approved..


   In 2004, 1,220 cases involving the agricultural usage of slopelands and a development area of 954 hectares were approved. 1,510 soil and water conservation projects for non-agricultural usage of slopelands were inspected. Among them, 1,403 passed and 107 failed.


Use of satellites to monitor slopeland use
   To enhance the efficiency of investigation, reporting and crackdowns on illegal usage of slopelands and to facilitate slopeland administration, a satellite image monitoring system was used for slopelands from 1998 through Dec. 2004. As a result 16,323 irregular spots were identified and followed by subsequent investigations from local authorities to verify illegal usage .
